Elon Musk's AI company xAI launched its first AI model, 'Grok,' on the 3rd, offering early testing to a limited number of users in the United States.

Earlier today, Musk announced the initiation of the Grok API's early beta testing, currently restricted to a few partner accounts.

Simultaneously, Musk pledged on the X platform that once the early testing phase concludes, xAI will make Grok available to all X Premium+ subscribers.

Grok API Access Now in Early Beta

Grok's early testing announced further progress today (the 16th), with Musk revealing this morning on the X platform that Grok has entered the early Beta testing phase of its application programming interface (API).

Toby Pohlen, a member of the xAI startup team, mentioned earlier this week that xAI has rolled out support for the Grok API. However, participation in testing is currently limited to a few partner accounts. We'll likely expand access to more developers.

Against Microsoft, OpenAI and Google

OpenAI reviews many topics, with humour being prohibited. Grok’s chatbot will answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.

Musk emphasises that Grok will be open-source in the future. xAI aims to build a robust Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) as an alternative to Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.

A Flaming War Between Musk and Altman on X

Previously, OpenAI founder Sam Altman sarcastically likened Grok's sense of humourto that of a grandparent telling awkward jokes, sparking a heated verbal battle between the two on the X platform.

Sam Altman showed the screenshot from Grok, which wrote,

“I tell jokes like your dad’s dad.”

Musk fires back, saying ChatGPT is more like GPT-Snore.

“GPT-4? More like GPT-Snore!"

Ex-Co-Founder of OpenAI

The fact is, Musk, as a co-founder of OpenAI, has previously shared on a show why he parted ways with OpenAI. He mentioned that his initial intention in founding OpenAI was to open-source AI technology.

However, he expressed dissatisfaction with OpenAI's current pursuit of profit maximisation through closed strategies, believing that the spirit of open-source should be the core value of OpenAI.
