Elon Musk’s controversial role policies to cut government coist continues to spark intense backlash, with daily death threats targeting him and members of his Department of Government Efficiency.
During his speech at the White House cabinet meeting, Musk revealed the threats started flooding in following his team's aggressive cost-cutting measures, which have resulted in the downsizing of tens of thousands of federal workers and the dismantling of entire agencies.
Despite the all the backlash and criticism he is getting on the policies he is pushing, Musk retains steadfast to his mission, claiming these reforms are essential to prevent America from financial collapse.
Backlash stretching all the way to Tesla
The fallout from Musk’s federal cuts has extended beyond government offices, with Tesla showrooms and charging stations bearing the brunt of the hate and becoming a frequent targets of vandalism and protests.
This has caused a greater division between Musk's supporters and Musk haters. One of such clash occurred in Florida, where a man drove his car into campaigners outside a Tesla showroom.
While in California, police arrested a counter-protester for using a stun gun during an anti-Musk rally.
FBI Director Kash Patel has labeled these incidents as "domestic terrorism," promising swift action against perpetrators. President Donald Trump has publicly backed Musk’s efforts, praising his leadership despite widespread criticism.
"Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN?"
During the cabinet meeting, Trump joked about dissent within his administration, emphasizing his unwavering support for Musk’s vision.
Trump described the workforce reductions as necessary steps to streamline government operations, even if unpopular with the public. Some cabinet members also lauded Musk’s contributions, with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin highlighting DOGE’s partnership with his department.
Musk stands by his policies and continues to push ahead
Musk has claimed that DOGE uncovered numerous fraudulent contracts during its operations, further justifying the drastic cuts. At one point during the meeting, he humorously mentioned discovering a loan awarded to a “precocious” baby through the Small Business Association.
Additionally, Musk introduced measures requiring federal employees to justify their roles through weekly reports, a move met with resistance from top officials and widespread defiance among government workers.
The threats against Musk have intensified in recent weeks. Police in Austin, Texas are investigating incendiary devices found at a Tesla dealership, while authorities arrested an Indiana resident for posting violent threats against Musk on social media.
The suspect was found with firearms and ammunition at his residence. In response to these incidents, Musk has vowed to crack down on domestic terrorism targeting DOGE and Tesla facilities.
Musk’s influence is not limited to U.S. politics; he has also faced criticism abroad. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa recently shot back Musk’s claims that "white people are being persecuted in South Africa" as baseless propaganda.
Musk has repeatedly accused South Africa’s government of promoting anti-white policies—a narrative Ramaphosa called "completely false".
What does the future of DOGE hold?
Despite Trump’s unwavering support, resistance within the administration and public dissent threaten DOGE’s future. As tensions rise over job cuts and budget reductions, Musk’s ability to maintain control over his department remains uncertain.
While he continues to champion efficiency and modernization in government technology, growing opposition may ultimately challenge his radical reforms.
