On February 22, the Chair of the European Parliament's International Trade Committee, Bernd Lange, announced via social media that he would propose suspending the approval of the EU-U.S. trade agreement. According to Jin10, this decision comes in response to the "chaos" caused by the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that deemed the U.S. government's extensive tariff policies illegal. Lange emphasized the need for clear regulations and legal certainty before proceeding with any further actions. He plans to formally propose on February 23 that the European Parliament temporarily halt the approval process of the trade agreement with the U.S. until a proper legal assessment is conducted and clear commitments are received from the U.S. The EU-U.S. trade agreement was reached in July of the previous year, with the U.S. imposing a 15% tariff on goods imported from the EU.
