U.S. Democratic leaders have announced that negotiations with the White House to restore operations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have reached a deadlock. According to Jin10, the funding for the department expired on January 30. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated that after the Democrats proposed a plan to end the shutdown last week, they received no response, accusing the White House of making no concessions on key issues. These issues include the requirement for federal immigration enforcement officers to remove masks during enforcement and obtain search warrants before entering residences. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized that the DHS appropriations bill will not progress until there is movement on these matters, noting that there has been almost no substantive communication with the White House recently.
