Anthropic Challenges U.S. Defense Department's Blacklist Decision

Anthropic has vowed to contest the U.S. Defense Department's decision to blacklist the company, which claims Anthropic refused to lift all restrictions on military use of its Claude model. According to Odaily, the company expressed deep regret over the escalating dispute. This move marks a rare instance of a company openly challenging the Trump administration since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House. Earlier on Friday, Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth threatened to sever Anthropic's ties with numerous clients through a 'supply chain risk' designation, a measure traditionally reserved for 'foreign adversaries.' Anthropic stated, 'No matter how the 'War Department' intimidates or punishes, it will not change our stance on mass surveillance or fully automated weapons.' The company intends to legally challenge any supply chain risk designation.
