India is facing a looming shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) due to disruptions in supply from the Persian Gulf caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. According to Jin10, while the global focus remains on crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, India's immediate concern is the shortage of LPG, a crucial fuel for millions of households. Insiders warn that unless shipments scheduled for March begin moving within days, the crisis will be unavoidable.
Data from intelligence firm Kpler indicates that India is the world's second-largest LPG buyer, with over 90% of its supply sourced from the Middle East. A government official stated on Tuesday that India's LPG reserves can sustain the country for approximately 30 days. Following attacks over the weekend, Indian refiners and government officials convened to discuss emergency energy plans.
