Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. According to RTHK, Wang Yi criticized the United States and Israel for taking military action against Iran without United Nations Security Council authorization, stating that such actions violate the principles of the UN Charter and basic norms of international relations. Wang emphasized China's disapproval of expanding the scope of attacks and condemned indiscriminate assaults on civilians and non-military targets, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf Arab states.
Wang Yi highlighted that prolonged conflict would only lead to greater losses for all parties involved. He called for an immediate ceasefire and a political resolution, supporting Gulf countries in taking control of their regional future. China intends to continue playing a constructive role in easing tensions and restoring peace.
Mohammed informed China about the regional situation and Qatar's stance, emphasizing the necessity of self-defense while increasing diplomatic efforts to prevent the crisis from escalating. Qatar appreciates China's impartial position and mediation efforts, hoping for a greater role from China in achieving a ceasefire.
