South Africa has announced its decision to maintain diplomatic relations with Iran, despite pressure from the United States. According to Jin10, on March 16, South Africa's government emphasized its commitment to an independent foreign policy. Zane Dangor, South Africa's Director-General of International Relations, stated that the country sees no reason to sever ties with Iran, highlighting its adherence to a non-aligned stance in international affairs and its reluctance to be drawn into conflicts between global powers.
The statement comes after Leo Bozzell, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to South Africa, publicly criticized the nation's diplomatic engagement with Iran, suggesting it could negatively impact relations between the U.S. and South Africa. In response, the South African government firmly rejected any external interference in its foreign policy decisions.
