Elon Musk has announced the launch of the 'Terafab' project, aimed at producing proprietary chips for robotics, artificial intelligence, and space data centers. According to Jin10, the ambitious plan will be based in Austin and jointly operated by Tesla and SpaceX. Musk revealed that an 'advanced technology wafer factory' will be established in Austin, equipped with the necessary facilities for manufacturing and testing various chips.
Despite the semiconductor industry's efforts to increase production, Musk expressed concerns that the growth rate is insufficient to meet his anticipated chip demand. 'This pace is far below our expectations,' Musk stated. 'Either we build a 'terawatt factory,' or we will have no chips available, and we need these chips, so we are going to build a 'terawatt factory.'' The project's goal is to support one terawatt of computing power annually in the future.
