Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei announced at the Code With Claude developer conference in San Francisco on Wednesday that the company experienced an 80-fold increase in revenue and AI usage in the first quarter, surpassing expectations. According to ChainCatcher, the company had initially planned for a tenfold annual growth, but the actual growth rate exceeded projections, leading to a strain on computing resources.
Anthropic's annualized revenue grew from nearly $1 billion at the end of 2024 to $9 billion by the end of the year, and by early April this year, it had surged to $30 billion. The strong demand for Claude Code and work agents nearly fulfilled the company's annual forecast last month. To alleviate the pressure on computing resources, Anthropic signed agreements with Amazon and Google over the past month for a combined 10 gigawatts of computing power. On Thursday, the company announced plans to utilize all computing resources from xAI's first data center, Colossus 1, located in Memphis, within the next month. Amodei stated that the company will continue to acquire as much computing power as possible.
