Airlink Defends Low-Altitude Flypast Over Cape Town Stadium

According to the BBC, South African airline Airlink defended a stunt in which two of its aircraft flew in close formation over Cape Town's DHL stadium shortly before a rugby match between South Africa and New Zealand. The airline said the flypast was carefully planned with support from aviation authorities, and that the planes were flown by highly experienced crew under approved and rehearsed safety altitude and speed limits. Flightradar24 said its analysis showed the lead aircraft passed less than 50 feet (15 metres) above the top of the stadium. Some people criticized the maneuver as reckless, while others praised the precision involved.
