According to Jin10, SoftBank Group- and OpenAI-backed power infrastructure company SB Energy has filed for an initial public offering in the United States, seeking to profit from rising electricity demand from data centers. The company said revenue in the first half of 2026 was $139 million, with a net loss of $3.2 billion, compared with revenue of $83 million and a net loss of $216 million in the same period last year. SB Energy has a portfolio of solar and battery storage assets and is developing a 9.2-gigawatt natural gas power plant in Ohio to supply an artificial intelligence data center as it shifts its focus to digital infrastructure. OpenAI and SoftBank have agreed to invest $500 million in SB Energy for an OpenAI data center in Texas with a capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, and Ares Management has also invested in the company.
