According to PANews, Pantera Capital's founder, Dan Morehead, recently revealed that his firm has made its largest-ever investment in Telegram's TON blockchain project. However, the exact amount of the investment was not disclosed. Morehead shared his experience of having lunch with Telegram's founder, Pavel Durov, stating that Durov's pure and firm belief left a deep impression on him.
Durov and his brother Nikolai founded VK, known as the 'Russian version of Facebook', at the age of 21. The platform, renowned for its excellent performance and independence from Russian media control, is widely used by the Russian opposition as a platform for organizing protest activities. Faced with the pressure of government demands for censorship and banning of certain online opposition communities, Pavel chose to leave Russia in 2013 and, together with Nikolai, founded Telegram, which is centered on the principles of freedom, openness, and expression. Morehead expressed his honor to cooperate with people with such firm beliefs and determination.
Morehead also noted that 99.999% of blockchain projects are trying to build communities from scratch based on technical concepts. According to CoinMarketCap data, there are currently over 23,000 cryptocurrencies on the market, which is a difficult path for most projects. However, Telegram is integrating blockchain technology into its existing community, which will undoubtedly be easier to achieve.
