Antonio Vinicius Gritzbach-a crypto expert, Brazilian businessman, also once the leader of the Brazilian mafia gang, Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC)-was assassinated in broad daylight under the hands of his own man at one of the busiest airports in the country.
Security cameras captured the horrific assasination attempt when Gritzbach was ambushed by two hooded men holding sub-machine guns and began to open fire at Gritzbach outside the Brazilian airport terminal.
Despite his best efforts to flee the scene, Gritzbach died on the scene after suffering multiple lethal bullet wounds.
Whistleblower who was granted a plea deal
Brazilian media suggested that Gritzbach was once considered a keyplayer in the gang's operations.
Just before his cruel assasination, Gritzbach was working with Sao Paulo to provide information about the gang that he was once working for.
As part of his plea deal, Gritzbach had been cooperating with authorities and revealing how the gang laundered millions in digital cash as part of a billion dollar cocaine trafficking operations.
Gritzbach also promised investigations that we would help the local authorities to locate the other members of the gang and handover the documents of the gang's wrongdoings.
In exchange, Sao Paulo prosecutors are said to have offered Gritzbach a judicial pardon and a reduction of his sentence for money laundering.
The PCC was formed in the early 1990s and had grown to be one of Brazil's most feared criminal factions, conquering drug markets, smuggling routes, shantytowns and prisons across Brazil, including far-flung corners of the Amazon.
In recent years, the group has increased its international ties, forging lucrative alliances with partners, including Bolivian cocaien producers and Italian mafiosi.
Just last year, Portugal security services suggest that the group had 1,000 associates in the country's capital Lisbon.
Some have also estimated that in 2023, the PCC made almost $1 billion from international cocaine and trafficking.
