Malaysian band Steady Gang has blown the mandopop scene with a very unique material for their new song, which is based on the concept of the Chinese Qing Ming Festival(清明节).
While the Qing Ming festival is traditionally viewed as a solemn occasion for honoring ancestors, the band has creatively infused a heartfelt storytelling into the festival through music, which left many of its viewers in tears.
The title of the new song is called "Zu Xian De WiFi (祖先的WiFi)" or "Ancestors' WiFi" is describes a person's longing for their departed loved ones and imagines a world where messages could be sent to ancestors via WiFi in the afterlife.
Using AI-generated visuals, the music video portrays families spending time together and paying respects to their late loved ones at gravesites. It also included snippets of the messages people wish to send to departed family members.
One such message reads:
"I wish to hug my mum one more time."
The music video portrayed a tear jerking moment where a girl was seen posing a photo, where she is seen sitting in between her father and grandmother. The music video later revealed a painful truth that she was actually posing for a photo alone, and her father and grandmother were no longer by her side.
The 'text message' in the scene reads
"If I could, I wish to take a family photo with my dad and ah ma who are now in heaven. That's one thing I regret most."
The music video has touched the hearts of many, with many netizens flocking to the comments section to leave their comments. One fan wrote
"I had to pause this video halfway because my vision started to get blurry from tears. I couldn't hold back my tears...I miss you dad, are you well?"
Many other fans reminisced on the good times they had with their departed loved ones, a number pennign messages to their late parents and grandparents.
Some also said the song reminded them of the importance of cherishing the time they have with people around them.
