Sanrio Teams Up with Web3 Giants for Innovative NFT Wellness Campaign
Sanrio’s Hello Kitty might be one of the most beloved characters worldwide, but the company is now venturing into the Web3 world with a twist.
Partnering with NTT Digital, the Japanese telecom giant, and other influential companies, Sanrio is taking the concept of NFTs to a whole new level, blending them with a wellness-focused initiative.
Joining this project are prominent names such as Animoca Brands, Monex, and Nissan, who aim to reshape the future of digital engagement.
Soulbound NFTs for Wellness
Unlike typical NFTs that are traded on the open market, this latest collaboration brings a unique element: Soul Bound Tokens (SBTs).
These non-transferable NFTs won’t be bought or sold.
Instead, they serve as a personal badge of honour for participants who complete wellness-focused tasks.
A representative from NTT Digital explained,
"We have decided to issue the tokens as non-transferable NFTs, with the expectation that they will be held as proof of users' wellness activities."
The Wellness Mission: Fun and Engagement Through Digital Cards
As part of the "Happy Well Cheer Squad" campaign, participants are encouraged to take part in various missions that promote both mental and physical health.
The missions are linked to specific companies, offering digital rewards such as limited-edition cards and the chance to win tangible prizes.
The campaign aims to make wellness fun, while subtly integrating Web3 technology into everyday activities.
Sanrio’s famed "Hapidanbui" characters take centre stage in this initiative, with their adorable 3D animations gracing the digital cards.
Hapidanbui is a group made up of six characters from Sanrio: Tuxedosam, Badtz-Maru, Hangyodon, Pochacco, Keroppi, and Pekkle.
These characters are not only acting as virtual cheerleaders but also as an integral part of the campaign, which will run from 21 January to 2 March 2025.
Web3 Jam: A Cross-Industry Collaboration
The campaign is a key part of NTT Digital’s broader Web3 Jam project, which involves over 30 companies from different sectors.
Asahi, Calbee, and Mitsubishi Estate are just a few of the major participants.
NTT Digital representative said,
"One innovative feature of the missions is that they are divided into a team membership section and a practical activity section depending on the difficulty.”
This dual approach allows both casual users and active participants to engage.
The initiative is designed to foster cooperation between companies from diverse industries using blockchain technology.
Each company in the Web3 Jam network is working to create mutually beneficial customer referral measures, all under the shared theme of wellness.
The representative added,
"We plan to verify the effectiveness of this campaign in terms of mutual customer referrals, and then consider more effective methods for future campaigns.”
Blockchain Technology for Customer Engagement and Data Collection
Not only does the project aim to enhance user engagement, but it also collects valuable data that could inform future Web3 Jam initiatives.
The data gathered during this wellness campaign will be used to fine-tune future projects, creating a more interactive and efficient ecosystem.
The representative highlighted the broader potential of the Web3 Jam initiative, stating,
"By exploring new marketing possibilities through corporate collaboration using blockchain technology, we hope to contribute to the social implementation of blockchain."
Endorsed by the Japanese Government
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has recognised Web3 Jam as part of its "Demonstration Project for Building Digital Public Goods Using Web 3.0 and Blockchain."
This endorsement gives the initiative an added layer of legitimacy and is expected to bring more public attention to the project, setting the stage for similar future campaigns.
With 22 companies already involved, this cross-industry effort shows no signs of slowing down.
The campaign may be a reflection of how Web3 is evolving from speculative investment to real-world applications.
NTT Digital’s project provides an exciting glimpse into how NFTs and blockchain technology can go beyond digital art, offering real value to everyday activities like wellness.
