Trump Considers New NFT Collection
Former United States president Donald Trump is contemplating launching a fourth non-fungible token (NFT) collection. In an interview with Bloomberg on July 16, Trump stated, "I’m going to do another one because the people want me to do another one." He highlighted the rapid sell-out of his previous collection, "MugShot," which sold out within a day despite being allotted a year for sales.
Trump emphasised the importance of US leadership in the cryptocurrency industry, noting, “I want to ensure that the United States is a leader in the cryptocurrency industry.” He shared that most of the payments for his last NFT collection were made in cryptocurrency, which has significantly influenced his perspective on the digital asset sphere.
Concerns Over Chinese Advancement
Trump expressed concerns about China’s advancements in the crypto sector, saying, “It’s a baby. It’s an infant right now. But I don’t want to be responsible for allowing another country to take over this sphere.” He stressed the need for the US to stay ahead, fearing that neglect could allow China to dominate the industry.
Shift in Banking Attitudes
He also commented on the evolving stance of traditional banking executives towards cryptocurrency. Referring to JP Morgan's CEO Jamie Dimon, Trump remarked, “Jamie Dimon was, you know, very negative and now all of a sudden he’s changed his tune a little bit.” This comes after Dimon's controversial remarks at a Senate Banking Committee hearing in December 2023, where he suggested that the government should shut down cryptocurrency.
Trump's comments follow a recent assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Following the incident, the Ethereum-based MAGA memecoin experienced a rapid price surge from $6.31 to $10.36, boosting its market capitalization from $293 million to $469 million within 45 minutes, as reported by Cointelegraph on July 14.
