Marla Maples Calls for Dismissal of Charges Against Roger Ver
Marla Maples, the second ex-wife of US President Donald Trump, has joined a growing chorus of voices urging the dismissal of charges against Bitcoin advocate Roger Ver, known as “Bitcoin Jesus.”
Maples recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her backing for Ver, urging the dismissal of the charges filed against him by the US Department of Justice.
Marla Maples is an American actress and television personality best known as the second ex-wife of former US President Donald Trump.
In a post on 16 March 2025, Maples shared a video created by an organisation advocating for Ver’s release, tagging high-profile individuals such as Trump, Elon Musk, and US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Maples wrote alongside the video, emphasising the collective effort to challenge the case against the Bitcoin pioneer,
"Sharing more re the call to dismiss the prosecution against Roger Ver."
Roger Ver Faces Serious Charges from US Authorities
Ver, who has been a vocal supporter of Bitcoin and blockchain technology, is facing severe allegations from the US government.
In April 2024, the Department of Justice charged him with mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns.
Authorities claim that Ver hid the extent of his Bitcoin holdings when he renounced his US citizenship in 2014, later selling his assets and failing to report the profits to the IRS.
The charges relate to an alleged $48 million tax fraud, with Ver accused of evading taxes on the gains made from selling Bitcoin.
Ver has strongly denied the charges, arguing that the IRS’s "exit tax" on renounced citizenship is vague and unconstitutional when applied to cryptocurrency holdings.
He has appealed for the charges to be dismissed, citing the unclear legal framework surrounding the taxation of crypto assets for US expatriates.
High-Profile Support for Ver's Legal Battle
The case against Ver has attracted significant support from a range of public figures.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the Silk Road marketplace, have also expressed solidarity with Ver, calling for an end to his prosecution.
Ulbricht, who was granted a full pardon by President Trump earlier this year, stated,
“No one should spend the rest of their life in prison over taxes.”
This sentiment is shared by many of Ver’s supporters.
Among those who have rallied to Ver's cause is political commentator Charlie Kirk, who extended his backing on social media.
Conservative figures like Roger Stone and Tucker Carlson have also voiced their support for the Bitcoin advocate, with Carlson even going so far as to tell Ver in an interview, "I’m rooting for you, fervently."
Maples Joins Campaign, Amplifies Calls for Justice
Maples’ involvement in the campaign is notable, especially given her history with Trump.
Having been married to the former president from 1993 to 1999, she remains close to him and has previously indicated her willingness to support his political endeavours.

At Trump’s 2017 inauguration, Maples expressed her openness to assisting in any way she could.
Her recent support for Ver’s case signals her ongoing alignment with individuals advocating for freedom and innovation, particularly in the cryptocurrency space.
Her endorsement, along with the backing of figures like Musk and Trump’s legal team, further raises the stakes in the effort to pressure the US government to reconsider the charges against Ver.
Ver's Legal Fight Raises Questions on Crypto Regulation
Ver's arrest in Spain in 2024 and subsequent bail have highlighted the growing tension between the cryptocurrency industry and traditional government structures.
His supporters argue that the prosecution is part of a broader effort to stifle innovation in the digital asset space, while others see it as a necessary step to enforce tax compliance in an increasingly digital economy.
As Ver’s legal team continues to fight the charges, the case has become a symbol for those advocating for a more balanced and transparent regulatory approach to cryptocurrencies.
Ver himself has described the case as an example of "lawfare," accusing the US government of using the legal system to target individuals like him who challenge the status quo.
Despite the high-profile calls for his release, it is still uncertain whether President Trump will intervene in the case, though his former associates, including Musk, have made it clear that Ver's renouncement of US citizenship complicates his standing for a potential pardon.
The matter is likely to evolve further as legal proceedings continue.
