Are you sick of the lies that are speading on the social media like a wildfire? Do you sometimes feel as if you can no longer trust what you see on social media? If this is your current sentiment, then YUP - A crypto-back social media platform - is the right solution for you. Let me explain how YUP works just a simple analogy...
Curator-centric platform powered by YUP token
Imagine that you are deciding on a place to go for dinner and you don't know if that restaurant one block away is any good, what would you do? I am sure you would check the google review to see what other customers are saying about the restaurant right, and use the review as a basis for your decision.
That is exactly what the YUP platform is about. The YUP platform is a place where users are able to do a "google review" on the various social media posts that they see on Google, Twitter, Thread, and Youtube. This way, you would be able to see what other people are saying in relation to a social media post and thus decide for yourself if you agree or disagree with what the author is saying.
In exchange for your opinions, you would be rewarded with the native YUP token. Since the start of its operations, YUP has distributed more than $1,600,000 in rewards. All the rewards on the platform are calculated and distributed in YUP equivalent, which empowers the core native asset of the platform with real-world value.
Valuing the under-rated
But wouldn't such a platform be misused to incite extreme values and opinions? To counter this concern, the project has created a metric called influence. Depending on how congruent your opinion is with your peers, you would be given a higher level of rating and thus giving you a greater influence. The level of influence you gain is also based on another metric called age, which measures the amount of tokens your account has and how long they have been held for. Essentially, the influence rating is based on multiple factors to solidify a person's authority and ensure that what he is saying is credible.
Paying attention to the underdogs
But of course, there are instances where the influence metric may be inaccurate. For example, a person might be a chief who actively reviews food on the platform. But because he doesn't have a huge following on the platform, he might end up with a influence despite his expertise in the industry. Another example would be a person who also doesn't have a huge following, but he is friends with industry experts like Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg. In these special cases, the platform would recognise discrepancies and readjust the person's influence with all these factors taken into consideration. This way, it ensures that every person has the right amount of voice on the platform based on their knowledge and expertise in the subject.
Regaining the trust of the people
The founders of YUP are Nir Kabessa and Vernon Johnson. While they were studying at Columbia University, they happened to chance upon a case study that reports on the growing power of online influence and deteriorating institutional trust. This inspired them to come out with this project, which was their solution for this social problem.
Furthering the development of Yup is the $3.5 million it raised during its early days almost two years ago. The seed-funding was spearheaded by Distributed Global with support from Dapper Labs and a host of prominent angel investors. Among these angels were Nader Al-Naji, the controversial developer behind BitCloud and the DeSo blockchain.
