South Korea Proposes Licensing Framework for Crypto Exchanges

South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) chairman, Lee Eok-won, has suggested transitioning from the current registration system for cryptocurrency exchanges to a formal licensing framework. According to NS3.AI, this proposal is part of the second phase of the Digital Asset Basic Act, which aims to enhance the regulatory framework and responsibilities of crypto trading platforms. The existing system mandates exchanges to renew their registrations every three years. However, the proposed licensing model seeks to establish a more robust legal foundation to increase market attractiveness.
