European Bond Market Enters New Phase with Steeper Yield Curve

The European bond market has transitioned into a new phase characterized by a steeper yield curve, according to Neuberger Berman portfolio manager Patrick Barbe. According to Jin10, Barbe noted in a report that the widening spread between long-term and short-term bond yields marks a significant shift from the past decade. This steeper yield curve now offers clear compensation for holding period and duration risk, which had largely disappeared over the previous ten years. Currently, the yield on two-year bonds in the Eurozone is slightly above 2%, while Germany's 10-year yield stands at 2.837% and France's at 3.424%. Meanwhile, the 30-year yields for Germany and France are reported at 3.485% and 4.364%, respectively.
