January Sees Surge in Phishing Scams and Significant Financial Losses

A recent report by Scam Sniffer highlights a significant increase in phishing scams and financial losses in January 2026. According to ChainCatcher, a user lost $12.25 million due to an error in copying a transaction address. In December of the previous year, another individual suffered a $50 million loss for the same reason. Additionally, January witnessed a sharp rise in signature-based phishing incidents, affecting 4,741 victims who collectively lost $6.27 million. This marks a 207% increase compared to December.
