The U.S. Department of Homeland Security remains in a state of shutdown as the White House and congressional Democrats have yet to reach an agreement on the funding bill. According to Jin10, the White House presented a new funding proposal to congressional Democrats on the evening of February 26. Spokespersons for Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated in a joint statement on February 27 that they have received the new proposal aimed at ending the shutdown and are currently reviewing it carefully. The Democrats remain committed to pursuing genuine reforms to restrain the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and curb violence. It is anticipated that Congress may take action on the funding bill as early as next week.
