Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has initiated a new wave of attacks in retaliation for the assassination of Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. According to RTHK, Iranian President Pezeh Khiziyan expressed condolences over Larijani's death and vowed revenge. In a statement, Khiziyan praised Larijani's contributions during his tenure, highlighting his efforts to promote regional peace and security and strengthen relations among Islamic nations. He described Larijani's death as an irreplaceable loss and promised severe punishment for those responsible.
Iran's Fars News Agency reported that Iran has pre-designated 3 to 7 replacements for all key government officials and military commanders to ensure continuity of core national functions in case of emergencies. Larijani was considered one of the most senior members of Iran's leadership and a close associate of the late Supreme Leader Khamenei. According to Israeli sources, Larijani led operations against the United States and Israel following Khamenei's death in an airstrike by the two nations on the 28th of last month, effectively becoming Iran's de facto leader.
