Oil Tanker Traffic Declines in Strait of Hormuz Amid Conflict

Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has significantly decreased from approximately 100 ships daily before the conflict to an average of just two. According to NS3.AI, Iran is effectively controlling which vessels can pass safely. Kpler reports that around 400 oil tankers are currently stuck. JPMorgan notes that most vessels still transiting are Iranian, with some governments securing safe-passage permissions for selected ships. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) recorded 21 ship incident reports in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman through Tuesday, including 16 attacks.
