Iron Ore Futures Decline as Cyclone Threat Eases, Fuel Supply Concerns Persist

On March 27, iron ore futures experienced a decline as traders adjusted their positions following the minimal impact of Tropical Cyclone Narelle on key port facilities in Western Australia. According to Jin10, the benchmark April iron ore futures on the Singapore Exchange fell by 0.32% to $107 per ton, marking a 1% decrease for the week so far. Attila Widnell, Managing Director of Navigate Commodities, noted that iron ore futures might be undergoing a temporary correction as the cyclone did not disrupt major port infrastructure, providing relief to traders. However, Widnell emphasized that fuel supply and replenishment strategies remain a significant concern for iron ore shippers. The ongoing conflict in Iran has exacerbated energy supply disruptions, intensifying fuel rationing and increasing transportation costs.
