He argued that having separate trusted setups for each application is outdated in the 2020s. Instead, he suggested adopting at least a universal setup, with the ideal scenario being no setup required at all. Vitalik emphasized the necessity for significant improvements in infrastructure and the standardization of new SNARK algorithms. He also referenced Alin Tomescu's view that Groth16's trusted setup is cumbersome and highlighted the importance of understanding alternatives like PLONK.
