Apple to Integrate Third-Party AI Voice Control in CarPlay

Apple is reportedly preparing to allow third-party AI voice control applications to integrate with its CarPlay system, marking a strategic shift for the company. According to Jin10, this move will enable users to interact with AI chatbots through their vehicle interfaces for the first time. The company plans to support applications within the CarPlay system in the coming months. Previously, Apple's popular in-car infotainment software only permitted its Siri assistant as the voice control option. With this change, AI providers like OpenAI, Anthropic PBC, and Google will be able to launch CarPlay-compatible applications featuring voice control modes. However, there are certain limitations; Apple will not permit users to replace the Siri button or change the wake word for the service. Users must open the relevant application to activate third-party voice control features.
