Bitwise CIO Challenges Layer 1 Blockspace Commoditization

Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan has challenged the notion that Layer 1 blockspace is becoming commoditized. According to NS3.AI, Hougan highlighted that institutional activities are still primarily focused on major blockchain networks such as Ethereum and Solana. He attributed the current low transaction fees to overcapacity but cautioned that increasing demand from decentralized finance (DeFi) and tokenization could lead to a tighter supply, potentially altering the economic dynamics of these networks. Additionally, Hougan emphasized the role of prediction markets in democratizing access to crucial information by publicly pricing the probabilities of significant events, thereby reducing insider advantages.
