The Bermuda government announced at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting its plan to transform Bermuda into the world's first fully blockchain-based national economy, with the support of Circle and Coinbase. Circle and Coinbase will provide the Bermuda government, local banks, insurance companies, and SMEs with digital asset infrastructure and business tools, and support digital finance education. The plan aims to leverage digital assets such as USDC as everyday financial infrastructure to reduce payment costs and increase merchant profits. Government agencies will pilot stablecoin payments, and financial institutions will integrate tokenization tools. Since Bermuda enacted its Digital Asset Business Act in 2018, companies such as Circle and Coinbase have been licensed and are operating there.
