Geopolitical Conflicts Impact on Asset Performance Since 2000

The research department at China International Capital Corporation (CICC) has analyzed asset performance patterns following 14 geopolitical conflicts since 2000. Findings indicate that in the first week after a conflict erupts, the probability of a rise in the A-share market is only 23%. However, as emotions settle, the market focus tends to return to fundamentals. This pattern is expected to continue, with short-term attention on sectors such as energy, non-ferrous metals, and military industries. In the medium term, the main themes remain unchanged, focusing on AI applications, overseas expansion, and resource price increases.
