Optimism has announced plans to discontinue support for op-geth and op-program by May 31, 2026. According to BlockBeats, while security patches and critical vulnerability fixes will continue to be released, new feature development, including the upcoming Karst hard fork, will be exclusively conducted on op-reth.
The fault proof program of op-program will be migrated to kona-client, with current deployments expected to remain operational until the Karst hard fork. Chain operators must complete the migration by the time of the Karst hard fork, as chains still running op-geth will be unable to follow the main chain.
Cannon-kona can operate within the existing op-node environment without the need for kona-node, which is an optional component. Node operators are advised to migrate to op-reth promptly to maintain network compatibility and access new feature support.
