OpenAI releases Codex Security, an AI agent security tool.

OpenAI has announced the launch of an AI-powered agent designed to help security teams discover and fix vulnerabilities in large databases, a move that could erode demand for traditional cybersecurity firms. In a statement Friday, OpenAI said the agent, named Codex Security, can identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and propose solutions before fixing the errors. The company says the tool is designed to “run at scale” and deliver “accessible patches,” allowing developers to focus on higher-level tasks. The company also revealed that the agent has been used to scan and identify security vulnerabilities in open-source code repositories. This product competes with Anthropic PBC’s Claude Code Security, which can also discover vulnerabilities and suggest remediations. Last month, the release of Claude’s new security tool caused a drop in cybersecurity stocks. At that time, Crowdstrike and Cloudflar both fell by 8%.
