A Bitcoin investor has pledged to provide $100 per month to all residents of Nevis if the island's free city status is approved.

Bitcoin investor Olivier Janssens plans to build a liberal community project called Destiny on the Caribbean island of Nevis and has sent emails to his mailing list stating that he will immediately pay $100 per month to all Nevis residents (including children) once a final agreement with the government is approved. This is an earlier move than the project's previous plan to distribute 5% of profits to local residents. This amount is significantly higher than the 30 Eastern Caribbean dollars (approximately $11) per person proposed by Janssens in November 2025. The proposal has been criticized by the island's opposition. Former government minister Carlisle Powell called the move an attempt to pressure the authorities to pass the project, while Nevis Reform Party member Kelvin Daly called it "open bribery" on Facebook, an act of private developer interference in the country's domestic political and economic affairs. The Destiny project, described by the local government as a multi-billion dollar development plan, involves a large-scale redevelopment of the island's south coast, including villas and a medical clinic, and plans to purchase approximately 2,400 acres of land, about one-tenth of the island's area. Nevis Prime Minister Mark Brantley has submitted the agreement signed with the company to the federal government for approval.
