In a social media post interpreting the Ethereum Foundation's new mission statement, the "EF Mandate," Vitalik Buterin stated that Ethereum plays a unique role in the global digital ecosystem, aiming to become a "technology haven" to maintain technological self-sovereignty and promote collaboration in an environment free from coercion and domination. He emphasized that Ethereum aims to ensure that no individual, organization, or ideology can gain absolute control in cyberspace and provides users with an exit mechanism. Vitalik explained that the Ethereum Foundation will continue to advance the CROPS principles—censorship and capture resistance, open source, privacy, and security—prioritizing decentralization, verifiability, network activity, and security at the protocol layer, and driving upgrades including account abstraction to reduce reliance on intermediaries. Simultaneously, the foundation will promote user experiences that balance security, privacy, and user autonomy at the application layer and collaborate with ecosystem projects to advance Ethereum's development.
