The U.S. Senate has voted to confirm Senator Marlin as the Secretary of Homeland Security. According to Odaily, this decision has impacted the Polymarket prediction market, where the probability of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown ending by March 31 has decreased to 54%, dropping 26% in an hour with a trading volume nearing $1 million.
Additionally, the likelihood of the DHS shutdown ending between March 28 and 31 has surged to 24%, a 13% increase within an hour, while the probability of it ending between March 24 and 27 has risen to 13%, up by 3% in the same timeframe.
During last week's nomination hearing, Marlin expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump's immigration policies and urged Democrats to swiftly pass the DHS budget proposal to "restart" the department. Marlin stated, "As Secretary of Homeland Security, I will protect everyone, and my goal for the next six months is to keep the department out of the media headlines." Since last year, the DHS has frequently made headlines due to issues related to illegal immigration. Democrats have demanded reforms in the DHS and federal law enforcement actions, threatening not to support the department's budget proposal otherwise. The DHS has been "shut down" since February 14 due to a lack of funding.
