Anthropic has filed documents with the Federal Election Commission to establish an employee-funded political action committee, AnthroPAC. According to Odaily, this move comes amid a dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration over the use of Anthropic's AI system, Claude, for military purposes. Previously, Anthropic refused a Pentagon request to remove safeguards preventing the system's use in mass surveillance or autonomous lethal weapons.
In March, Anthropic sued the federal government after being designated as a national security supply chain risk, a decision that has been temporarily halted by a recent court ruling. Other tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have already established similar PACs.
In 2026, Anthropic donated $20 million to Public First Action, an organization supporting AI safety measures.
