According to Iranian media outlet Press TV, Ebrahim Azizi, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran will never relinquish its control over the Strait of Hormuz. He asserted that this vital waterway is an integral part of Iranian national sovereignty and will always remain under Iran's complete jurisdiction. When asked if Tehran would relinquish control of the strait, Azizi replied, "Absolutely not. This is our inalienable right. Iran will determine the right of passage, including permitting ships to pass through the strait." He stated that this principle is being solidified through legislation. The senior lawmaker said, "We are introducing a bill in parliament based on Article 110 of the Constitution, covering environmental, maritime security, and national security, and the armed forces will enforce this law." Tehran now considers its ability to regulate maritime traffic through this waterway crucial for restoring deterrence and maintaining long-term strategic leverage. (Jin Shi)
