Subscription movie ticketing service MoviePass announced the completion of a seed round of financing led by Animoca Brands. Other investors include Claritas Capital, Emerald Plus, Gaingels, Harlem Capital, PKO VC and Sandhill Angels. Yat Siu, executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, will join MoviePass' board of directors. MoviePass has not disclosed the specific financing amount. MoviePass will use the new funding to accelerate the beta relaunch of its movie theater subscription service and develop and implement the company's Web3 strategy, including virtual reality theater experiences and using technology to drive theater traffic. MoviePass will also work with theater exhibitors and studios to offer moviegoers variable ticket prices.
