According to documents on the official website of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the US SEC has accused SBF of defrauding FTX investors. The SEC's complaint alleges that Bankman-Fried violated Section 17(a) of the Securities Act of 1933 and Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 hereinafter. The SEC's complaint seeks an injunction against future violations of the securities laws; an injunction barring SBF from participating in the offering, purchase, offer, or sale of any securities, except for his own personal account; forfeiture of his ill-gotten gains; civil penalties, among others. Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed charges against SBF.
