Qualcomm said it will raise chip prices by double digits starting September 1 for chips shipped after that date. According to ChainCatcher, the company told customers in July that it could no longer absorb rising supplier costs.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said in a Reuters interview that the company is passing on the large cost increases it faces. Apple is still buying modem chips from Qualcomm for the iPhone 17 lineup while shifting to its own in-house modem. Qualcomm now expects revenue from Apple to decline faster than previously forecast, falling about 50% from the September quarter to the December quarter, as supply constraints reduce Qualcomm's component share in the iPhone 18 series. Qualcomm also supplies mobile chips to Samsung and other manufacturers, and the price increases will apply across its product lines and be negotiated separately with customers.
