Hong Kong had 106 billionaires with net worths of at least $1 billion at the end of last year, ranking second among global cities behind New York's 164, according to ETNet. Singapore ranked fifth with 75.
ALTRATA's Billionaire Census 2026 said Hong Kong's billionaire count fell by two from 2024, while New York and Singapore added 12 each. Hong Kong's billionaire wealth rose 4% year on year to $319 billion, while Singapore's increased 13% to $139 billion.
The report said 64.2% of Hong Kong's billionaires were born overseas, well above the global average of 20.1%. It added that Hong Kong's billionaire count was weighed down by a weak property market and a smaller share of AI-driven wealth creation, while the city remained exposed to geopolitical risks as a financial and wealth-management hub.
Globally, the number of billionaires rose about 8% to 3,795 last year, a record high. Among the top 15 cities, only Hong Kong and London saw declines, with London down one to 79. The report said 47.7% of Britain's billionaires were born overseas.
