According to CNBC, logistics company OneRail is launching OmniStar, a platform built with Nvidia's artificial intelligence software to help retailers choose the most efficient delivery option for each order. OneRail said the system can cut package-routing decisions from 20 minutes to two and a half minutes, and that it has already been deployed with some customers, including a large tire distributor that saw a $40 million run-rate savings over three years. The company said OmniStar is estimated to surpass $6 billion in gross merchandise volume in the fourth quarter. OneRail CEO Bill Catania said the platform is designed to help smaller retailers improve margins and compete with larger rivals such as Amazon and Walmart, while Nvidia vice president Azita Martin said it can help retailers evaluate more scenarios and improve delivery economics without sacrificing service.
