According to the BBC, Donald Trump said the United States' position on the Falkland Islands is "one of many" under review as he pressed the UK to increase military spending. He said Britain has "got some problems, but they'll get solved" when asked about defense funding, after The Daily Telegraph reported that U.S. defense officials were drawing up proposals to encourage NATO allies to meet spending pledges, including a possible threat to oppose UK sovereignty over the Falklands. The UK government said Falkland islanders "are British with a right to determine their own future," while a spokesperson said the islanders have repeatedly said they want to remain a British overseas territory and that the government's commitment is unwavering. The Falkland Islands remain the subject of a sovereignty dispute between Britain and Argentina, which fought a 74-day war over the territory in 1982 that killed 255 British military personnel, three islanders and 649 Argentine soldiers.
