U.S. Treasury Yields Rise as Inflation and Debt Concerns Pressure Borrowing Costs

According to CNBC, U.S. Treasury yields were broadly higher on Wednesday as inflation and debt concerns pushed up global government borrowing costs. The 10-year Treasury note rose 1 basis point to 4.81%, its highest level since Jan. 2025, while the 30-year yield added 2 basis points to 5.286% and the 2-year yield was little changed at 4.4%. Yields also climbed globally as investors demanded a larger premium for medium- and long-term government debt. Dan Coatsworth, head of markets at AJ Bell, said investors were facing stronger inflation pressures and that market expectations for the size of rate hikes continued to shift. He added that some bond investors may be waiting to lock in higher yields, while others could hold off in case rates rise further.
