Anthropic has released a blueprint for building e-commerce agents on Claude, providing frameworks, patterns, guardrails, reference implementations for shopping and merchant agents, and a Claude Code plugin. According to ChainCatcher, the code can be deployed on Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry, or Google Cloud Vertex AI, and can also be used with partners including Accenture, Mastercard, and Visa.
The company said retailers running shopping agents on Claude have seen cart sizes increase by up to 35%, while shoppers were 60% more likely to complete purchases. Shopify and Priceline are among the enterprise customers already using Claude to build agents that let consumers search, compare, and buy products using natural language.
Anthropic said shopping agents can connect to catalogs, carts, checkout, preferences, and order history to support multi-item planning, personalization, and customer service questions, while constraining prices and products with catalog data. Merchant agents can answer sales-performance questions, track inventory, suggest pricing and promotions, and draft marketing campaigns, with proactive suggestions requiring human approval before going live.
