Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo sent the cryptocurrency bill passed by parliament last year to the Supreme Court for review on Jan. 26. He previously partially vetoed the legislation, claiming it violated core principles of the constitution. The Supreme Court now needs to decide Either declare the bill unenforceable, or approve it with amendments. Foresight News previously reported that last April, Panama’s Legislative Assembly passed the Cryptocurrency Regulatory Act, which regulated the issuance of digital currencies and the tokenization of other commodities, and allowed citizens to use cryptocurrencies as payment for goods and services, as well as taxes. In June, Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo partially vetoed the country's bill No. 697 regulating encrypted assets and sent the bill back to the country's National Assembly.
