Avalanche announced that it will release the pre-release code for the Avalanche Cortina upgrade on the Fuji testnet on March 27, and the Cortina upgrade will be activated on March 30 at 23:00. The latest version of AvalancheGo will migrate X-Chain to run Snowman++ consensus, make X-Chain compatible with Avalanche Warp Messaging, and make it easier for exchanges to support X-Chain. The Cortina upgrade also introduces batch delegator reward simplification and increases the C-Chain gas cap, where the batch delegator reward simplifies the distribution of fees for validators with a large number of delegators, batching them over the entire validation period of a node, and Distributed when a node unstakes. In addition, Cortina increased the C-Chain block gas limit to 15 million Gas, which was previously 8 million Gas per block. X-Chain runs Avalanche Consensus, a DAG-based leaderless protocol that allows concurrent processing of non-conflicting UTXOs with high throughput without establishing a total order of activity. C-Chain, P-Chain, and all Avalanche subnets currently run Snowman++, a fully ordered chain-based protocol that enables conflict-free block production to thousands of participants without time-based slot.
