Odaily Planet Daily News A British court has sentenced a criminal gang to a total of 88 years in prison. The team is accused of relying on the family and friends of its members to launder £4.6 million ($5.2 million) through Coinbase.
The 12-member criminal gang was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court in the United Kingdom on charges of selling more than 40kg of cocaine as well as MDMA, ketamine and other class A drugs, Nation Cymru reported.
The ringleader, 30-year-old Amir Khan, converted £1.65 million ($2.1 million) of illicit funds into cryptocurrencies. As a result, some funds may not be recoverable, the judge said. In fact, more than £153,520 ($176,000) of funds from a single encrypted wallet have been lost. (Protos)
