Fantom is exploring adding Optimistic rollups to connect to Ethereum

Odaily Planet Daily News The Fantom Foundation is studying adding Optimistic rollups between Fantom and Ethereum, which will make it a Layer 2 network on Ethereum. But co-founder and architect Andre Cronje prefers to think of what is commonly referred to as Layer 2 networks as sidechains, and the Optimistic rollups technology that combines them as a bridge between the two. “We’ve been looking at technologies like Optimistic Stacks, Arbitrum Stack, and how their standard bridges use these proofs to get higher security guarantees,” Cronje said. ‘Are we considering making one of these stacks our own standard? Bridging?’ Yes, we are considering it and are actively investigating it.” Cronje confirmed that if Fantom adopts Optimistic rollups and provides a full transaction history on Ethereum, then Fantom will need to pay transaction fees to write these snapshots to Ethereum. Fantom Foundation CEO Michael Kong added that deploying Layer 2 technology in this way will allow the Fantom network to draw more liquidity from the Ethereum ecosystem. (The Block)
